For Jo and Michelle founders of JMBH Homes and Developments, it was time to update their headshots to celebrate their first joint venture. These ladies embody female empowerment. Starting life again after divorce and as single mums, Jo and Michelle met each other through a networking event that would propel them to quite literally build a new future. Embracing each other’s strengths and complementing each other's efforts they achieved their goal of a a large property development.
As a Southampton headshot photographer, I really wanted to capture their confidence and strength as it was evident to me just how passionate they are about property development.
It’s women like these who will be encouraging the next generation of women to take up such roles in the future.
Southampton Headshot Photographer - The Brief
Jo and Michelle needed a Southampton headshots photographer that could work to a quick turnaround. They had a deadline for a book that they are being featured in. They also needed some updated headshots for Linkedin and their website. So now was the perfect time for them to bite the bullet and get camera ready!
Sometimes the best plans have to be changed last minute and you have to roll with it. This is what happened this week, I had a headshot shoot all planned in Southampton at a location I’m now really familiar with and I had a good plan in my mind to how things would roll. But the night before my lovely client Jo calls on the way back from Birmingham, both her and her business partner Michelle would get home really late and an early morning shoot was going to be a little stressful to get to….could I relocate to Michelles home in Lymington?
These things don’t phase me, and off I pootled the following morning not knowing exactly where I’d be shooting.
Southampton Headshot Photographer - The Shoot
Everything turned out just fine, the weather was a little overcast but dry and Michelle’s flat was just ideal. Having had a quick reckie around I soon identified four areas that would be fab for their headshots. As the girls are both in the building biz I looked for some strong architectural features. I was excited to see the entrance to the house had a fabulous iron gate and brick wall. These gave a wonderful backdrop of texture and depth.
As a Southampton headshot photographer, I really like to work off the cuff, I think it comes from my love of street photography. You just have to keep an eye out for something that inspires you, and the results are usually better for it.
We also had some help from Michelle’s daughter Brook, who was excellent at helping them relax. It was a lovely shoot, we had some fun and giggles along the way.

I want to give a shout out to today a lovely lady and talented branding photographer. I believe in the power of branding, be that company or personal and the ability to tell a story, build trust and relatability through the messaging and imagery you put out in the world.
Having said that, neither @michellelucas or I particularly enjoy having our photographs taken!! So we’d put it off. Alison was brilliant at putting us both at ease, and the hour flew in pretty painlessly and was, dare I say it, actually quite fun! 🫣
So thank you to Alison Dewey and for accommodating our last minute change of venue. You did a fab job. And if anyone in the Hampshire area needs a branding photographer- Alison’s your lady!
Southampton Headshot Photographer - The Results
As there was a deadline I went straight home to do the edit. I gave the interior headshots a fresh light feel and a more Autumnal vibe for the outside shots. It was November after all!
But the best part for me as a Southampton headshot photographer is getting that first response back that my clients love the images. And secondly seeing them use the photographs straight away. The icing on the cake is a shout-out on social media, and Jo and Michelle gave me a fabulous endorsement on Linkedin. I love reading the comments from their colleagues and friends too. it’s such a confidence boost all around.
